David Stogdill – Lake Norman

I am the official Mascot for the Charlotte Bobcats. My character’s name is Rufus Lynx. I have been training with Mike Montefusco in Lake Norman for the last 9 months. My job is extremely active and physically demanding. Part of my job description is to perform at the basketball games; engage the crowd, dance, perform physical comedy and acrobatic stunts in costume. My costume consists of an orange fur suit with hockey helmet / rubber mask (also covered in fur). On average the temperature inside the suit is 40 degrees warmer than the temperature outside the suit. As mentioned, the acrobatic stunts consist of jumping off of a trampoline dunking a basketball.

I used training as a way to increase my core strength and overall leg strength to improve my jumping ability off of the trampoline in order to perform better / more stunts. I received great results. After training with Mike, I noticed my height off the trampoline increasing. I was able to perform more dunks / stunts that I have never previously been able to do. (See video). Having structure and accountability helped me tremendously. It enabled me to accomplish some goals that I have never been able to reach in the past. The programs were great, always inventive and new! Mike is a very knowledgeable trainer. He is constantly looking for ways to help me improve and keep things fresh, explaining exercises and why we are doing them. I would definitely recommend Mike to my friends because of his enthusiasm and willingness to help in any way he can.
